One night from Sendai by train: sights and a harbor seafood BBQ
No car needed. Afternoon on the Matsushima waterfront, then seafood from the shops next door, grilled on the covered porch.
Day 1
Take the JR Senseki Line from Sendai to Matsushima-Kaigan (about 40 min). Leave big bags in coin lockers near the station; the house cannot hold luggage before check-in.
Lunch near the Matsushima waterfront.
Walk to Zuiganji Temple, Godaido Hall and the red Fukuura Bridge. If you want a bay cruise, this is the time.
Ride one stop to Takagimachi and walk 8 minutes to ISSO. Self check-in with a door code sent the day before.
Walk 30 seconds to the seafood shops and choose what looks best today. Check shop hours in advance.
Seafood BBQ on the covered porch (BBQ set is a paid option).
Day 2
Morning walk along the fishing port to Isojima Park (4 min). On weekends and holidays, book an early tethered balloon ride there.
Check out by 10:00. Head back to Sendai from Takagimachi, or spend more time on the waterfront.
