Seafood BBQ
Buy it, grill it
Right outside the house is a row of local seafood shops. Choose what came in that day, walk it back, and grill it on your own covered porch. Guests often mention it in their reviews.
How it works
After booking, message the host to reserve the BBQ set, ideally by the day before.
Check in.
Shop for seafood about 30 seconds away. Meat, vegetables and drinks at the supermarket (9 min walk) or 7-Eleven (5 min).
Grill on the porch. Afterward, rinse the dishes and tie shells in a bag for the burnable garbage.
BBQ set (optional, ¥3,000)
- Iwatani gas-cartridge grill (for 4-5 people)
- Grill net, tongs, cutting board, scissors, oyster knife
- Colander and bowls
- Paper plates, cups and chopsticks
Food is not included. It's a gas grill, so there's no charcoal to light.
Good to know
- One grill suits 4-5 people. With 9, grill in rounds or use the kitchen too.
- The grill may only be used on the covered porch, never indoors.
- Smoking is allowed outdoors only; please keep away from the grill and children.
- Keep small children away from the grill while it's hot.
The seafood shops
Three shops sit about 30 seconds from the door: 杉原功商店, 赤間水産 and 高栄水産. Some offer eat-in, but taking it home to grill is the ISSO way.
Not a seafood person? The A&COOP supermarket, a 9-minute walk away, sells meat and vegetables for the grill too.
Matsushima oysters are generally in season from autumn to spring. What's on display changes with the season and the day's catch.
